(Aka, what the fuck/hell in Swedish...)
For those of you who know me, I'm a HUGE fan of the Bleach and InuYasha mangas. Like, fantastically-crap-my-pants at cosplay fan. Anyways, those of you who are also into manga/anime/etc. probably know about OneManga.
Hell, you DEFINITELY know about OM.
And if you don't, then you are a noob. I know, I'm pulling out the big guns on that one. But that's besides the point. For those of you who are new to the wonder that is manga and OM, OM is a glorious site that posts translated (Japanese -> English) scans of manga, updating the site as the author releases new chapters. I mean, you can also chat and do other forum things, but I guess I feel like the main purpose of OM is to allow everyone access to the manga quickly and make people aware of manga/anime companies like VizMedia and Weekly Shonen Jump (I know, VM owns WSJ...). And it's hugely popular. OM was the reason that I got into manga. My boyfriend showed me InuYasha anime and after watching the entire series (back before they wrapped it up with "The Final Act") I wanted to actually read the manga, and where did I go?? OM!
And now, sadly, tragically, HEARTBREAKINGLY OM has announced that it will be shutting down it's scanlation operations. I'm so fucking pissed. And I know, I know, I totally missed the ball on this one, because this apparently has been out for a while and I totally missed it, which normally definitely would NOT have happened...but I'm in Sweden, feeling guilty about not going to OM as soon as a new Bleach chapter is posted.
Jesus Christ. Damn. One of the main reasons why I've become such a huge fan of Japanese manga/anime and the whole culture surrounding it is that the Japanese artists and publishing companies always seemed so generous about sharing their passion with others. It was pretty damned easy to find the latest anime episode (for example) whereas for basically all current American TV (I'm thinking BBT in particular...) it's hard as balls to find the shows if they aren't posted on Hulu nowadays because of all the new 'pirating' laws. I mean comeon. People want to watch your TV or read your work so you should make it easy for them to do so. Oh and did I say cheap too??
I know, my argument hasn't been that pissy or convincing or exciting to read, but I'm exhausted as fuck after the day trip to Dalarna (I'll tell you about it tomorrow...). Anyways, I'm fucking pissed that OM is being shut down and I really hope the execs at VM get raped by a blind raging bear on their way home from work today. I seriously am at a loss for words...I have no idea what I will do now. It's like the rug has been ripped out from under me and my happy little manga world. UGH!!
