Is it Good if a Vacuum Really Sucks?

Now that's a great question. Up there with the chicken and egg one.

So, sometimes, anime/manga come up with really great concepts. InuYasha is chalk-full of many personal favorites of mine, but Bleach is definitely getting up there as I'm sure many of you know. There are a lot of random, deep lines in Bleach, but two have recently been on my mind.

1. Kaien Shiba
    Bleach Chapter 368, pgs 11-12.

Note: Images from http://www.onemanga.com/, but original artwork and story are from Tite Kubo (Aka, DISCLAIMER: I don't own Bleach).

This is possibly my most favorite moment in Bleach. Because I totally believe it. I mean think about it. People speculate about "listening to your heart" and "being true to yourself" and "going with your gut instinct" and all but it seems to be a general assumption that when it comes to matters of the heart, no one can really help you, it's just something you're suppose to know. Very broad and pretty much undefinable. You ask an old married couple how they knew and they reply that they "just knew." What the hell??? How is that helpful?! And, I kindof like the idea that we build a heart between ourselves and others. It involves us trusting the other person enough to entrust part of ourselves with them. What is our heart constructed of anyways? People. It's a beautiful theory really.

2. "...do you remember the first time when you were a child that you stood up and walked on your own? ... If you don't remember doing it and yet you did it, it means that you weren't conscious of it at the time. So how did you know how to do it?" (Yoruichi Shihōin, Episode 51)

So, Yoruichi goes on to answer this by saying that instinct is what shows us the way. Now, I know, this analogy is kindof flawed (the whole, we observe other adults walking and imitate their behavior...but the general feeling is something that I think we could all come up with multiple examples of...I'm just too lazy) but I think that what she observes is indeed true. How humans instinctively know things they are never consciously aware they learned. This is something which has actually interested me for several years. As I'm sure you all are aware, I don't have any sense of physical instinct, in fact I don't really have many instincts. The best I've got are academic instincts. And damn do I love it when my intellectual instincts are uncannily correct. Other than that, the only real other instinct I have is when I am driving/walking in a new place I have been to only a single time and seem to recall subconsciously my way around. I wish I had better instincts about life though; when someone is lying, physical awareness of myself and my surroundings, noticing the unusual amongst the common, etc. etc. etc. I'm amazed by the people I'm met who seem to have a sixth sense for these things- they are excellent at spotting fleeting glimpses of something in the outermost corners of their peripherals and not only notice it, but know it's importance without even thinking about it. That's my interpretation of instinct at least. I don't totally know what I make of Yoruichi's remark yet, but it is definitely something I'm going to enjoy mulling over for a while to come.
